Atomic Coffee providing ‘Loud Pow’ for local nonprofit

Atomic Coffee Roasters is giving back to the community this winter with its “Loud Pow” blend, donating $2 for each bag of beans sold to Elevate Youth, a local nonprofit that seeks to empower youth to explore the outdoors.

The blend’s name stems from what the Peabody-based coffee company described as a joke among East Coast skiers. A “Loud Pow” occurs when skiing over hard ice, with the skis skidding along the surface, a phenomenon not uncommon in the area.

“If you are out shredding the loud pow — you are ripping it up on an icy day,” the coffee company said.

Loud Pow comprises coffees from Honduras, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua and “boasts a delightful mild citrus acidity complemented by inviting notes of toffee and chocolate.”

This winter, Elevate Youth is offering 12 downhill and Nordic ski trips in partnership with Wachusett Mountain and Weston Ski Track. The trips are designed to introduce young participants to skiing, and the necessary gear, rentals, and instruction are all provided at no cost. Kids who have never skied and more seasoned skiers will both be included.

According to its website, Elevate Youth seeks to “park a lifelong love of the outdoors through equitable access and routine immersion in nature as a way to foster agency and lead holistic, healthy lifestyles.”

“We work alongside our youth to elevate their voices as the next generation of diverse environmental stewards,” the website read.
